3,000 workers at Alameda Health System Bargain for 14 Months, Strike for 5 Days, and Finally WIN a Tentative Agreement for a Four-Year Contract with a New CEO, New Trustees, and Many New Members
"The power we have is the power to stick together to fight for common goals."
An “…incredibly momentous settlement within truly unexpected conditions,” is how Alameda Health System (AHS) Chapter President John Pearson described the tentative agreement reached between SEIU 1021 members and AHS management last week. John, an Emergency Room nurse at Oakland’s Highland Hospital, summed up the long, hard contract campaign by saying, “We can win when we make a plan together and when we struggle together.”
CCA members, students, and workers take to the streets to save another Bay Area higher-ed art institution from collapse at the hands of big banks.
On Sunday, March 21, SEIU 1021 members from the staff and adjunct unions at CCA joined forces with CCA students supporters from the local art community to adorn the street steps away from the front door of First Republic Bank in SF with a dazzling yet poignant mural.
The street mural action is the latest step in an ongoing fight between CCA union members, the CCA administration, and the Board of Trustees over a string of reckless decisions that have burdened the institution with massive amounts of debt which is impacting students and workers alike.
A statement from SEIU 1021 Joseph Bryant Condemning Anti-Asian Racism and the Recent Targeted Shootings in Atlanta
“This week, our country saw yet another incident of violence against people of color, as a young man murdered 8 people in Atlanta, including six Asian women in their place of work. While the details of this violence are still coming into focus, make no mistake, these killings did not occur in a vacuum. They took place within the larger context of hatred and violence aimed at members of the API community occurring all across the United States.
“We must work together to tackle anti-Asian racism in our communities and our workplaces,” says Yeon Park, SEIU 1021 VP of the East Bay
It has been heartbreaking to see the recent uptick in anti-Asian racism happening here in the Bay Area—and make no mistake, hate and racism are at the root of the violence we’ve seen in recent weeks.

Relive our 2021 Black History Month Celebrations
Last year was bittersweet; there was significant turmoil as well many triumphs. The plight of Black African Americans reached the World’s stage and our local answered the call to fight for justice while stating proudly that ‘Black Lives Matter’.
Our Social and Economic Justice (SEJ) Committee has put together a month-long program to celebrate the history and contributions of Africans Americans through virtual symposiums. Come join us during this time of renewal to celebrate greatness with us, and to nurture a new age of prosperity and hope.
