Holy Names University Adjuncts Secure Strong Tentative Agreement with 45% Raises
Members will vote on contract ratification later this month.
SEIU 1021 members who are adjunct faculty at Holy Names University (HNU) got some good news for the holidays late last month, when their bargaining team reached a strong tentative agreement with university administration after a year and a half of contract negotiations.
The tentative agreement (TA), which adjuncts will vote on later this month, includes 45% raises over the next two and a half years, including a 15% raise starting this month, as well as a host of other improvements adjuncts had identified as priorities for the new contract.

would think that OUSD management would finally be ready to talk
seriously about safety. Yet they continue to put the health and
lives of OUSD employees, students, and our families on the line
by refusing to bargain on COVID safety.
In fact, despite the bargaining team hustling tirelessly for six
months to get a fair contract, there has been precious little

City of Oakland Members Stick Together and Fight off an Attack on Their Rights
For years, the City of Oakland had a simple, common-sense approach to drug and alcohol use: if a worker was thought to be impaired at work or under the influence, they would be sent for testing. However, in recent years, some members of the City’s administration started to try to impose a new standard, with a long list of specific job classifications and reduced flexibility for departments. Worst of all, the testing under the new policy was a urine test that would show only the presence of cannabis in the worker’s system, not impairment.
