Web Steward Registration Instructions
Register below for Communications for Chapters trainings
Instructions
Before registering for this training, you must read the C4C blog for background so that you'll understand what you're getting into.
1) Sign up for the session(s) you want by making selections from the drop-down menus. You're encouraged to take Communications for Chapters more than once, but we need to ensure space for first-timers. Registration for a session closes after 10 people sign up. If you sign up for a session that is already full, you will be notified as soon as possible by e-mail.
2) The week before your session, you will receive two e-mails:
- The system-generated e-mail contains your username (the e-mail address you use to register) and a temporary password to access your account and choose your own password. The temporary password expires in 24 hours. Use it before then please.
- The e-mail from the web steward administrator will be sent at about the same time with (a) a reminder to log in using the system e-mail, and (b) an invitation to join the Web Steward discussion group on Google Groups (see below).
3) If you have not received the system e-mail by Monday (the day before your session), contact the web steward administrator at randy.lyman@seiu1021.org. You can still attend the training without a login.
4) On Monday you will receive a third e-mail with a Web address, phone number, and instructions for joining the training. Depending on your location, the phone call will most likely appear as a charge on your monthly bill. You can be reimbursed for the call by following the union's member expense policy.
5) Follow the instructions to start MeetMeNow and call the number at the appointed time.
Web Stewards Discussion Group
The 1021 Web Steward group is a mutual support and discussion group where training continues, tips are shared, alliances forged, questions answered, and assistance rendered by 1021 staff and other web stewards to each other. You'll also find announcements of system upgrades and rebuilds from the developer, and member-to-member communications resources to download. More with time. Membership is by invitation only, and all group access and information about it is restricted to members only. In the long run, the 1021 Web Stewards group will prove an invaluable resource to you and your chapter.
System Requirements
1. Webex's MeetMeNow meeting software works with Internet Explorer and Firefox on a PC platform. (You can use Firefox on a Mac to work on your chapter page.)
2. The first time you launch the software to join a meeting, you will be prompted to download and install an ActiveX plug-in so that the software can work. Just say yes and follow the instructions. Other than that, you don't need any software but your Web browser.
3. Mac users. The Webex site makes it seem like MeetMeNow is Mac-compatible, but the customer service rep said it's not. If it works, let me know. You can run Windows XP or Vista on your Mac using either Parallels Desktop ($79.99 at www.parallels.com) or Apple's Boot Camp (free at www.apple.com). Either way, you'll still need to beg, borrow, or buy a copy of Windows. Cheapest thing is to use a friend's PC for the class.
