Welcome to the 1021 Convention: Speakers, Workshops & Orientations Announced

Speakers and Workshops

The two-day convention will be open to all members and include prominent and inspiring speakers from across the nation. Saturday's keynote speaker is labor activist and author Bill Fletcher and Sunday's will be SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry.

There will also be educational workshops, covering topic such as:

  • Reinvesting in American jobs and public services by making corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.
  • Challenging unresponsive employers to support us and the people we serve.
  • Standing up to special interest groups seeking to eliminate the voice of working families in politics.

Several of the 13 workshops will focus on how we can combat attacks on working families in California. One timely and cutting-edge workshop is "Lessons of Wisconsin/Anti-Worker Laws," led by Eric Cobb, executive director of the South Central Wisconsin Building Trades Council.

Purple Power

We are proud of our union roots and our leadership in the fight for fairness and equality for all working people. We've been battered by the continuing economic recession, and we've seen an unprecedented attack on public sector workers in an effort to silence our voices, cut our wages and pensions, and weaken our rights. Our power is in our numbers, and when we come together we have the strength to fight back.
