Who is the ROC? The Reserve Organizing Corps.
We are SEIU 1021
union members from all over Northern California. We do the work in cities, counties, schools, public agencies and nonprofits.
We take time off from our jobs and travel in California and throughout the U.S. helping workers organize a union.
We find that most people don’t know much about unions,
and when we tell our stories people can relate to our experience as
workers. When we tell them what it’s like to work in a union shop and
have good benefits, they really get it.
> Participate in organizing campaigns
> Talk to workers one on one
> Receive the training you need
> Use your experience & know-how to build the union
Work as part of a team in actual campaigns talking to other workers
about your experiences—about the difference a union can make. ROC members receive training, support and encouragement from SEIU leaders and staff.
Mary Sanders, Organizing Chair
"When I talk to non-union workers about my experience working a union
job, they really get it. It means more to them when they hear from
people who actually work in jobs like theirs!"
For union members, “
organizing the unorganized” is the most
effective form of job security! Organizing non-union workers eliminates
non-union competition that threatens our wages, benefits, and working
conditions.
“
How often do we hear bosses say during
contract negotiations they can’t afford to improve wages, benefits or
job security because their non-union competitors have lower costs?”
As long as there are employers in our communities who run non-union shops, our wages, benefits and working conditions are threatened.
