Noon Press Conference (prior to 1PM Board of Supvervisors hearing on the issue)
Wed., June 30 • City Hall Steps, San Francisco(San Francisco, CA) – As the second busiest clinic at San Francisco General Hospital, The Workers Compensation Clinic has a 12 year history of a close working relationship with insurance agencies, unions and department safety officers. It has a centralized location for treating injuries, allows recognition of injury trends and interaction with safety officers to prevent further injuries.
It has specialized care provided by UCSF physicians with experience in occupational medicine (a specialty field dedicated to treating injured workers and preventing injuries). It also has two full-time nurse case managers to streamline medical referrals/testing, access to care, and to facilitate communication.
Closing this clinic will result in:
- Actually costing the city more money than it saves.
- More time away from work, due to much longer wait times.
- Lower quality support for injured workers.
- More injuries & higher worker comp costs for city departments.
- Less effective transitions back to full duty for injured workers.
SEIU 1021, impacted workers and community allies will hold a press conference at 12 noon this Wednesday, Jan. 30, on the steps of City Hall before the Board of Supervisors hearing on the matter.
