Local 1021 members approve contract with City of San Francisco

San Francisco city-wide workers have ratified a new two year, no concessions contract with management. Votes were counted Monday with 98 percent of members approving the contract.

“It was amazing to see hundreds of my fellow union members come together in unity to fight back the proposed concessions—and we did it,” said T. George Weeks, a child welfare worker and city-wide bargaining team member.

The tentative agreement, which must be approved by Mayor Ed Lee and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors includes:

  • No wage concessions
  • No concessions on healthcare premiums
  • A three percent raise effective in 2014
  • Temporary workers, following years of unfair treatment, will have priority for permanent jobs.

Dear SEIU 1021 SF Citywide Members,

Our contract fight had two main goals that were spoken loudly from all meetings & member surveys-- NO economic concessions and NO increases in health care costs to our families.

Because of strong member support at actions & rallies, we got power at the bargaining table and we reached a tentative agreement.

Member informational meetings and voting are happening now. Get informed and bring your questions to an informational meeting near you.

We, your elected Bargaining Team recommend a 'YES' vote on the tentative agreement!

Thank you for all your support out in the streets of San Francisco.

In Unity,

SEIU 1021 SF CItywide Bargaining Team

Bargaining Update # 8: 1,500 March for a Fair Contract: April 30 We Take Back City Hall!

The streets of San Francisco were awash in purple last Wednesday as more than 1,500 members from all of our industry groups took part in a day of action at the Civic Center to send a message that SEIU Local 1021 is one union, with one fight!

“The crowd was electric. We need to carry that momentum into April 30th,” said Jamila Din, Bargaining Team member and Laguna Honda Hospital worker.

City-wide workers joined San Francisco nurses and members from our Nonprofit, MTA and Superior Court industries in four separate but related actions that drew major press coverage and thousands of supporters to City Hall, including a public hearing highlighting the City’s abuse of as-needed/temp workers.

In one of the largest rallies in our local’s history, the closing act included arrests in front of Bank of America for taking a stand against the greed of mega-banks and corporations and against City Hall for letting them get away with it.

Next up we will return to City Hall on April 30 at 4 PM.

Bargaining Update #7: "Alarming Wake Up Call"

Like stepping out of a dream, sleepy-eyed morning commuters were greeted Thursday by ‘CEOs’ of downtown companies who have been cheating San Francisco residents for the last decade.
Dressed as CEO look-a-likes in suits, top hats and white gloves, enthusiastic 1021 members and staff stood outside Montgomery Street BART Station downtown and handed out ‘Thank You’ cards to hundreds of BART commuters who often smiled at the warm, if unexpected, greeting.

700+ People, Politicians Attend Rally at SFGH & LHH

While the City is looking again to cut more services for the sick and elderly, health care workers -- with the support of three SF Supervisors, Assessor Phil Ting and a representative from State Senator Leland Yee's office -- say it’s time instead to fix structural problems with the tax system. Workers said it's time to close tax loopholes that only benefit highly profitable corporations, not the people of San Francisco.
