Q: Why is County Administrator Manuel Lopez refusing to save San Joaquin County more than $11 million?
A: Because he’d rather lay off nearly 100 County
workers who provide critical health care and social services to the people of San Joaquin than hear real solutions offered by the people who make the county run.
In public, Lopez says he won’t accept the workers’ offer to save $7 million through mandatory furlough days and $4 million more through early retirement incentives.
His excuse: Furloughs will mean cuts in services.
And yet, he wants to lay off nearly 100 people who work for the County and San Joaquin General Hospital — guaranteeing permanent cuts in all County services.
Last week, he instructed his hirelings to sabotage a deal with County workers that would have saved those jobs AND more than $11 million in taxpayer money.
