On September 12, Union City workers held an informational picket then marched to City Council. Member leader Juan Banuelos spoke to City Council, “Your lack of commitment to the people and the community over the 13 years I’ve been here is a disgrace. The City will never retain good workers because they give no incentives to stay. Workers feel greatly under- appreciated.”
Members have had enough with the recalcitrant attitude of Union City Council and the city’s contract negotiators. Members have gone to City Council with their families and supporters. Their demand is simple “Union City, Invest in Your Workers,” yet they have been met with an inadequate response from negotiators. Union City needs to show good faith in negotiations and support its workers, the ones that create a safe and clean city for all families to enjoy.
