Oakland, CA — SEIU Local 1021 members working at the Port of Oakland have reached a tentative contract agreement with management after 16 months of negotiations at the bargaining table.
Details of the new collective bargaining agreement will be released after members vote to ratify the contract on Wednesday, December 5.
On November 19 and 20, more than 500 Local 1021 members launched an unfair labor practice strike at the Port following management’s refusal to turn over critical financial documents needed for contract negotiations.
The strike effectively shut down the Port, forcing City of Oakland mayor Jean Quan to bring both parties back to the bargaining table. Days later, Local 1021 Port workers and management reached an agreement pending the ratification process.
Local 1021 represents more than 200 workers who maintain, secure, repair and do clerical work at the Oakland Airport and the harbor.
