Napa County workers rallied outside of the Napa Board of Supervisors Building on Wednesday to urge the Board of Supervisors not to allow their contract to expire without a new agreement. At the rally, county employees handed-out ice cream to prevent the “meltdown” of county services by encouraging members of the community to contact their Supervisor before the contract expires on June 29th.

SEIU 1021 represents over 900 county employees, including Nurses, Public Works and Roads Employees, Social Workers, Probation and Safety Officers. Affordable healthcare, family leave, safety retirement for probation and safety officers, overtime takeaways, and retiree healthcare are at the core of the contract fight.

“The Board of Supervisors has distanced themselves from their workforce. They are not hearing from the single parents trying to provide the basic necessities and health care for their families. They are not hearing from employees who are trying to complete their high workload, so they work harder, longer each month. They are ignoring the lack of experienced Probation and Safety Officers leaving to outlying areas that offer the basic protections for peace officers injured in the line of duty. The distance between our bosses and us--their employees--are buying them a discontented workforce,” said Manny Glisson, Napa Association Public Employees (NAPE) Chapter President of SEIU 1021.
